Karen refugees in Thailand

Democracy in Myanmar (Burma), but no peace yet with the Karen. Many are still displaced. Twenty years ago I visited two Karen refugee camps just across the border in Thailand, followed a familie in each camp, stayed there some days, illegally. It often looked like ordinary daily life in a village, except that one of the two, Huay Kaloke, was far too congested. But especially the dependency on food aid and the constant military threat from Burma told a different story. There is less violence now between the government and the minorites, but the Karen still don't have the autonomy they strive for.
