Lifesaving World championships

The 2016 Lifesaving World Championships were held in the Netherlands. The ocean events took place on the beach and in the sea at Noordwijk. This sport evolved from the tasks of lifesavers, and now also serves as a training for lifesavers. There are both individual and team events, some of which take place in a swimming pool. The ocean events include board and surf ski (similar to a kayak but with pedals to operate the rudder). During these races a course has to be covered through the sea. Even men and women above 65 compete, as this photo report shows.
